For over three decades, Garrett Davis—playwright, filmmaker, and proud son of Winston-Salem, NC—has been using the stage to spark change. With a mission to uplift communities of color through storytelling, Davis founded GDavis Productions and Films, and most recently, launched his most powerful initiative to date:
The Father Figure Project
“Telling our Stories, Our Way, for Our People.”— Garrett Davis
Father Figure: More Than a Play
At its heart, Father Figure is a gripping story about redemption, forgiveness, and fatherhood. The play follows Robert, a man desperate to reconnect with his estranged son Marcus after years of absence. Through heartfelt scenes, music, and raw dialogue, audiences journey through brokenness, healing, and hope.
But Father Figure isn’t just entertainment—it’s an EduTainical Experience. That’s Davis’ term for the immersive mix of live performance, film, and education that drives awareness around generational trauma, mental health, and the need for emotional restoration—especially within Black families.

“We’re not just performing plays—we’re planting seeds of healing.”— Garrett Davis

Davis is no stranger to using his art to tackle real issues:
“Mama’s Girls” – A touching play about caregiving, created in partnership with AARP and the American Diabetes Association.
“Forget Me Not” – Inspired by his own grandmother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis, leading to partnerships with Emory Brain Center, AstraZeneca, and the U.S. Against Alzheimer’s Network.
“Daddy’s Boys: Broken Promises” – A story that dives into father-son estrangement and the hope of second chances.
“Sisters at Heart” – Based on the true story of two women surviving congestive heart failure.
Each production is purpose-built to inform and inspire action.
